About Beyond 90

A career built across football, business and community.

Beyond 90 Consulting was founded on a simple but powerful belief: that the survival and growth of non-league football clubs in England depends not on football alone, but on the strength of their relationship with their community and their ability to generate diversified, sustainable revenue beyond the pitch.

Ignacio Basombrio, founder of Beyond 90 Consulting

The founder

Beyond 90 Consulting was founded by Ignacio Basombrio, a sports management professional with over fifteen years of experience spanning football administration, business consultancy, public sector management and operational leadership across two continents. His career is defined by a rare combination of formal academic training, hands-on operational experience and a genuine passion for the role that football clubs play in the life of their communities.

Academic foundation

In 2015 Ignacio completed his coaching badge through the Peruvian Football Association, deepening his understanding of the technical and developmental dimensions of the sport from within a national football association framework. In 2016 he completed an MBA in Sports Management at UniSports, Spain, equipping him with the strategic business and financial frameworks necessary to operate at board level and develop credible, evidence-based plans for organisational transformation.

Football clubs in distress & administration

From 2014 onwards, Ignacio worked in football consultancy in Peru, advising professional football clubs operating in or approaching financial administration in collaboration with the country's tax and regulatory authority. This experience — working directly with clubs in financial distress, navigating complex legal and regulatory environments, and helping boards find a path to stability — gave him an unusually deep and practical understanding of football club finance and governance under pressure. Few consultants anywhere in the world can claim direct hands-on experience of steering clubs through administration.

During this period he also served as Legal Administrator at Sport Boys Association, one of Peru's most historic professional football clubs, founded in 1927 and based in the port district of Callao. Embedded within the club's operations, he gained an insider's understanding of how a football club functions — and dysfunctions — at an institutional level.

Public sector sport & community development

From 2015 onwards Ignacio worked as a sports consultant and area manager for the sports divisions of several city councils in Lima, Peru — including the districts of Jesús María and El Agustino. He was responsible for developing and delivering sports strategy at a community level, managing facilities, programmes and budgets across diverse urban communities. This public sector experience gave him a direct understanding of how sports facilities can serve as anchors for community development, health and social cohesion — insights that are directly transferable to the community hub model he now advocates for non-league football clubs in England.

Operational leadership under pressure

During the pandemic, when sports activity was suspended, Ignacio stepped into the role of administrator at a private clinic in Lima — managing four surgical theatres, twenty beds, twenty-eight consulting rooms, an emergency department, a laboratory and X-ray facilities. Running an organisation of this complexity and sensitivity, with simultaneous responsibility for staff, patients, suppliers, regulatory compliance and financial performance, required precisely the kind of multi-service operational leadership that the community hub model demands of a football club.

What makes Beyond 90 different

Most consultants who work with football clubs come from one direction — finance, or football, or operations. The founder of Beyond 90 Consulting comes from all three simultaneously, and his experience spans not just boardrooms and spreadsheets but the lived operational reality of running complex organisations in challenging circumstances. He has worked with clubs in crisis and with public institutions at the heart of their communities. He understands both the passion and the pragmatism that non-league football requires.

Beyond 90 brings to every engagement not just a methodology but a genuine belief — grounded in the evidence and in his own experience — that a football club is one of the most powerful community institutions a town can have, and that with the right support, almost any club can find a path to sustainability, growth and deeper community connection.
